The first South East Junior skills day was a great success!

Hosted generously by Tonbridge school, we had a fantastic setting for the days activities. The weather was exceptional for a Saturday in September as 30 junior players turned up to improve their skills and compete. 8 different schools and clubs were represented and the age range was 10 to 18.

The coaches, Cam, Jon and Starzy put the players through their paces in the morning, ably assisted by 6 helpful volunteers. There was a lot of talent on show with fancy footwork on the agility ladders, excellent break throws and perfect long hucks.

During lunch, the players were  divided up into 6 teams and given their brand new Brighton Ultimate T-shirts. They had to get to know each other quickly as the first games got under way straight after the break. It was brilliant to see such competitive play between all teams. The varying ages, abilities and experience on each team were plain to see but this didn’t get in the way of the joy of playing Ultimate. All teams had a high level of camaraderie and encouragement showing a lot of passion for the sport, running hard as the afternoon sun beat down.

Every team was able to get at least one victory and in the end it was the pink team which proved strongest and finished as undefeated champions.

On behalf of Brighton Ultimate I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone for coming, particularly a big shout out to Jon, Pablo and all the kids from Wyvern St Edmunds, who travelled from Wiltshire for the day!

We’d love to keep running these events so look out for more, likely to be in early summer 2020.
